Welcome once again to our football tips for today. Let’s head out to the Etihad Stadium in
Manchester, where the English champion Manchester City faces Fulham in a match from the 1/8-
finals of the League Cup. Or how it’s being known today – the Carabao Cup.
Manchester City are the current holders of the trophy in this competition. Maybe you remember
that last season Pep Guardiola’s team triumphed at the Wembley, beating Arsenal in the final. Now
the goal for the Cityzens is similar – to reach the final again and win it. This is not the most
important trophy in English football, but it’s still a trophy.
Fulham on the other hand are among the newcomers in the Premier League. Right now the
Cottagers have different kind of problems. The team is currently in the relegation zone of the
league, starving for points. The team’s manager Slavisa Jokanovic is put under a serious pressure,f
so we could suggest that the Carabao Cup is not his priority at the moment. But this is still a game
which have to be played, right?
The winner from this game will meet Leicester City or Southampton in the 1/4-finals. The match
between the Foxes and the Saints was postponed because of Leicester City’s owner tragic death
after a helicopter crash.
Just as always, we shall expect to see both managers giving a playing time to some of their
backup and young players. This competition is often used by managers to rotate their squad and
give playing time to players who play more rarely. We think that this match won’t be an exception.
In the previous round of the competition Manchester City enjoyed a 3-0 win during the visit to
Oxford City. In this match Guardiola gave a chance to talented youngsters like Phil Foden and
Brahim Diaz. We shall expect that the Spanish manager will do it again on Thursday night, too.
Except Foden and Diaz, we shall expect to see on the pitch players like Arijanet Muric, Nicolas
Otamendi, Vincent Kompany, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus. Most likely the
star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will also start this game. The Belgian international needs a match
practice after recovering from injury. De Bruyne entered the pitch as a substitute against Tottenham
on Monday, but he clearly needs more games to return to top form.
It’d be curious to see Leroy Sane on the pitch. Last season the German international was brilliant,
but now he’s mostly starting games from the bench. For Sane this is going to be a great chance to
shine and prove to Guardiola that his place is on the pitch.
In the Premier League Manchester City are doing very well. The champions are currently leaders
in the standings, being on par with the 2nd Liverpool, but having a better goal difference. On
Monday the Cityzens had a tough visit to Tottenham on Wembley, but managed to win with a
winning goal from Riyad Mahrez in the beginning of the match. We can conclude in our football tips
for today that right now Pep Guardiola’s team is in a very good form. Man City have won 7 of its
last 8 matches in all competitions, only missing the win against Liverpool (0:0) at the Anfield.
For Fulham things are very different at the moment. The Cottagers are newcomers in the Premier
League, but they have some serious problems to adapt to the new challenge. Right now the
Londoners are18th in the league standings, being in the relegation zone. Right now Fulham are in
a negative run of four consecutive defeats in the Premier League. In their last fixture they suffered
a 0-3 defeat at home against AFC Bournemouth.
This puts the Serbian manager Slavisa Jokanovic under a serious pressure at the moment.
Jokanovic is the man who won the promotion to the Premier League for Fulham, but as we know
very good, in football the most important thing are the results. If Jokanovic does not start delivering
positive results in the Premier League, most likely he’d get sacked pretty soon. Most of the fans
love him and it would be hard for them to say goodbye, but this is what’s like to be a coach in
football – you must be ready to go in every moment.

Fulham reached the 1/8-finals of the Carabao Cup after a 3-1 win over Millwall at The Den in the
end of September. Joe Bryan, Luca de la Torre and Cyrus Christie scored for the Cottagers on this
day. This was one of the rare occasions since the start of the season when Fulham actually
enjoyed a win.
How we said, right now the Carabao Cup is not a priority for Fulham. On Monday the Cottagers
have a visit to Huddersfield Town in the Premier League. We shall expect that Jokanovic and his
players will be concentrated on this match, because it’s much more important than the League
Cup. That’s why most likely Jokanovic will give a rest to most of his starters. We shall expect to
see a lot of Fulham’s backup and young players against Manchester City at the Etihad.
These are our football tips for today for the Carabao Cup clash between Manchester City and
Fulham at the Etihad Stadium n Manchester. Even if Pep Guardiola picks a very experimental team
for this game, Manchester City remain a strong favourite for the win. Right now Fulham are not in a
condition to rival the Cityzens. How we said, for the visiting team this competition is not a priority at
the moment. Fulham have entirely different problems at the moment, so they will think mainly
about the match against Huddersfield in the Premier League. On the other hand, for Manchester
City this is a great chance to bring some joy to the fans at the Etihad. The season is going very
well for the Cityzens, so they’d like to keep it that way in the Carabao Cup as well
